The Waldorf Blofeld Synthesizer Offers Great Sound In A Small Package

by Russell Strider

If you're a musician, you probably already are aware of the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer. When you look at it, it is actually a tiny little thing and you would not believe that it works. Nevertheless its bite is bigger than its bark. This beautiful little steel keyboard is around two feet long by a foot wide but its shimmering dun screen and the aluminum encoders cause it to be a very satisfying instrument. It is very easy to look at and every bit as easy to work with. The slimline appearance helps make it very easy to transport around and it will not fail to impress viewers with the quality workmanship.

Technical Features

The Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer offers 3 oscilloscopes for each voice and because of this a minimum of two are capable of delivering synthesis of tones or analogues. Although it is tiny, it manages to include pretty much every one of the capabilities which are necessary in a traditional synthesizer model. All of this means that this unit provides you with a flexibility that's not provided by different machines. The 3 oscillators are freely sent through 2 distinct filters and they can deliver an extensive variety of waves. You can get analog waves or digitizable tables that may be blended to create the best sounds. The third oscillator is VA only however its well worth the money.

Combining these capabilities with the high quality arpeggiator and effect slots means that these machines include effects slots, a special chorus, flanger, phases and triple effects features which can be combined to generate a complete selection of new capabilities. Preferably, we would recommend that you experiment with each of the effects like the delay, the clocked delay and the reverberation features which are listed on Effect 2 prior to actually trying to mix anything. Analyze all the functions before you start but seriously it does not take very much time for you to get the hang of it.

One of the best features of the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer is the big screen and steel knobs which make it genuinely easy to use. However, the polished steel might make this product just a little slippery. The knobs modulate the parameters of your sound generating a truly great sound. The sound that it produces is generally WALDORF in nature. You may not have the ability to get fat basses due to the smaller size of the keyboard but you do get clear and sharp sounds. If you'd like you can then sharpen the sounds and make them warmer however more bass is not really possible.

The only issue is the fact that the back of the device has just two audio outputs and it could do with many more in order to make it a lot more versatile and easy to work with. The single MDI port is quite limited in use and a couple more are a definite requirement.
