Awesome hip hop beats use a combination of drums, hihats, bass, snares and hundreds of other sounds and vocals. It’s all a matter of putting it all together the right way and creating a beat with a rhythm that sounds sick. Here is how you can make hip hop beats professionally or just for fun.

This tutorial will teach you how to make hip hop beats with the DubTurbo software. You will need a computer with speakers to use with the software. You may be able to use this tutorial for other beat making software but for now this is a tutorial for this program.

Open the software once you have it installed on your computer. When it’s running, draw 2 bars with the pencil tool.

To start, click on the pencil tool, then click and drag your mouse from the first bar across tothe other side creating 2 bars. This beat will use the fixed tempo set to 104.0 so you have to make sure it is so set.

Now grab your arrow cursor which is found next to the pencil tool and click on the 2 bars you created. With the 2 bars highlighted, click on edit. A new screen will appear in the DubTurbo interface with lots of squares and an option to choose your patch. Scroll down in the patched section and select Hip Hop1 beat. Select the pencil tool that will enable you to draw in beats.

Click the very first box to the left hand side of the grid, the so-called Kick1. This is your first hip hop beat.

Skip a line of squares. Click on HiHat1 square. Next line click on the Kick1 square. After that line you will need to add two squares one in the snare box and one in theClap box.

Skip another line again and then add a Kick2 and a HiHat1. kip 2 lines again and add a Kick2. On the next line, add a Kick1 and a HiHat1. Miss a line and then add a snare. Miss another line and add a HiHat1. On the next line add a HiHat1 and a Kick2. On the remaining bars, just copy all those.

Hit the play button and you can hear a simple but very cool sound of a hip hop beat. You can add loops and some vocals to it.

You can do other patches or sounds for fun. You may add more beats to improve on the one you have produced. There’s no limit to what music you can do with a variety of software. Who knows you could be the next rapper on the block selling your own tracks.
