Looking for Classical Sheet Music?

Today there are many ways to find classical sheet music. However the days are gone when you were limited to whatever was available at the local music store. Those stores may not even exist if you are in a rural area or a smaller town.

Get online and get what you are looking for. The number of sites and the variety of ways to purchase sheet music is awe inspiring. Just deciding which one to use can be pretty time consuming. Some sites offer a free first download and others offer at least the first page for free.

If by chance you need the traditional format and bindings then you may have to find a site that will ship you the manuscript. This is about the only way to get the orchestral size sheets. It takes longer but gets you exactly what you expect.

However, if you do not need to have an official-looking music book you may be able to save some money by downloading the piece from a website. This has several advantages – in particular you now own an electronic copy and can reproduce it if you lose or damage your music. Although of course, this does not mean you have the rights to reproduce it for your friends or students.

This is your personal copy of whatever music you have purchased. You may find that your name is printed on the cover page or perhaps every page. And why deny the composer that the few cents that copyright provides?

Of course, the online site will also have greater selection than any local storefront. They can afford to carry inventory that may never be asked for, whereas your local store generally covers the needs of your local music schools and the local private teacher requirements. And if you live in rural America, you may not even have a store near at hand.

However, online stores carry not only the basics but often the unusual and the arcane. Do you need a transcription from piano to cello? No problem, there are sites that will either find it or do it for you. Do you need the libretto too? No problem. Want it in Ancient Greek? Well, that might be more difficult, but perhaps not impossible.

So with all the sites available on the net, getting the classical sheet music you are looking for has never been easier. Whatever instrument, arrangement or key signature you are looking for, someone will find a way to get it to you. Time to log on.
