How Freeing Your Mind Can Lead To A More Fulfilling Life

by Valerie Mcleod

Most people want nothing more than to lead calm, relaxing, stress-free lives. For some, achieving inner peace is something that can only come from living life on the edge. Whether you're high on life or you get some extra help from prescription medications or other drugs, the fact remains that the world today may seem like it's spinning faster than it ever has before and you want nothing more than to just make it stop. When it comes to freeing your mind, one of the first things you might want to think about doing is accepting that you are just one of many.

You may share one physical world with the rest of humanity, but your own personal world is really the only one you will ever truly know. Your world may consist of trying to make everyone else happy, or one may keep it spinning by trying to impose their will on those around them. If you believe your way is the right way, the only way, and refuse to see anyone Else's point of view, it can be said that you've created a prison within your own mind and you may not even realize it.

When children start changing into adults, it seems inevitable that at least a few chains will begin to form in their minds. When you were a child, when you were told you had to wait for an hour, those sixty minutes probably seemed like an eternity. Perhaps this is because a child really has no concept of time. There are no deadlines to meet, no real responsibilities.

Children don't usually need help freeing their minds. Their minds are completely open. It's only as they get older that they learn how to construct the walls that can imprison them. And they learn this from adults. It's a cycle that keeps repeating itself. You may have been taught to believe what your parents believed. The 'truth' whatever it may be for them, is expected to be held onto by you as well.

People who can look into another person's world and not only understand how that person is feeling, but also feel inside themselves some empathy for that person, have taken a big step in loosening the restraints within their minds. Not just knowing, but actually accepting and being okay with the fact that not everyone is going to look like you, act like you, or think like you, can also be a step towards personal freedom.

You are a human being, different, but basically the same as every other human being on this planet. There are rules that must be followed in order to coexist with the masses, but this doesn't mean you cannot and should not use your own mind to form your own beliefs. Being open minded means allowing thoughts and opinions of everyone to float freely in your head. This doesn't mean you have to agree with them, it simply means you're capable of entertaining the thoughts and you can do it without being too terribly judgmental.

Most people have no clue that they're living in a prison within themselves. Everyone seems to want to be an individual yet they follow along with the majority all the same. Thinking for yourself and freeing your mind, means being able to understand or at least accept/tolerate everyone around you. Form beliefs on personal experiences and the answers you've found by asking the questions of all types of people and situations. Once you are able to admit you may be wrong about something, and you allow another way to enter, old links will start to break and new ones will form in their place.
