Drying wood floors. How do you do it?
Timber floors can be tricky to handle when drying simply because the wood floor can bow and cup when flooded. In most instances putting an airmover on the floor is not enough to restore it after a flood. Therefore it may be necessary to have a look at using the Injectidry drying system.
The Injectidy system can restore timber floors to prevent cupping and bowing. The way it works is suction plates are placed0 on the floor. These plates extract the moisture out of the floor over a time period of 4 days or longer. Typically a dehumidifier will be placed in the middle of the room to dry out the moisture pushed into the atmosphere.
Many wood floors these days are in fact floating timber floors installed on concrete. The Injectidry system will only work in these situations some of the time. You need to analyse the composition of the timber and whether water is trapped underneath the floor and the concrete. This is because in many cases it is impossible to remove the moisture with the Injectidry.
It is important to note this system is usually used in expensive wood floor areas that are expensive to replace. It depends on which restoration company is used but usually it will cost close to $300 to hire per day which is usually cheaper than replacement. Having said this, the timber floors may need to be resealed and re-sanded. Therefore it may be important to conduct a cost benefit analysis to see whether it is economical to dry it out.
The timber floors sometimes dry without much intervention. At the same time it may be important to seek professional advice from a credible water restoration business to conduct an inspection. A credible flood restoration business can advise to whether it is worth using the Injectidry System or not.
