"Discover" Remastered Pink With This Studio Album Box Set

by Harold Joshua Quesenberry

The Pink Floyd Discovery Box Set includes all fourteen of the band's studio LPs from their 1960s Syd Barrett lead debut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn through their '70s masterpieces Wish You Were Here, The Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall through their final album 1994's The Division Bell.

All of these albums have been newly digitally remastered by the co-producer of The Wall.

Any audiophile who has heard the awesome improvement in the quality of sound from the 1980s Beatles discs to the new remastered CDs contained in The Remastered Beatles Stereo Box Set knows that this digitally remastered claim so much more than just a marketing ploy. A good remastered CD can let you to listen to this music like never before.

Along with the music itself, the box set contains an exclusive artwork booklet by the band's long time art collaborator Storm Thorgerson and each album comes with a booklet which features complete lyrics for that album.

In addition to this 16 disc remastered studio album "Discovery" box set (The Wall and Ummagumma are double albums) Pink Floyd is also coming out with three "Immersion" box sets for their three biggest selling LPs.

1973's The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975's Wish You Were Here, and 1979's The Wall get special treatment with these "Immersion" box sets which are the most interesting thing for hardcore Pink Floyd fans because they contain previously unreleased alternate mixes, alternate recordings, and live recordings.

The Dark Side of the Moon Immersion Six Disc Box Set seems particularly interesting to me and not that's not just it's my favorite Pink Floyd LP but also because it contains some really interesting bonus discs. Disc 2 has a complete performance of the album performed live in London in 1974! Disc 3 is a DVD which contains surround sound mixes (5.1 & the 1973 quad mix!), Disc 4 is a video disc which has live performances, concert screen films, and a documentary video on the recording of the album, Disc 5 is the material on DVD discs 3 and 4 on a bluray disc, and finally Disc 6 is a CD with more unreleased demos, alternate takes, and live performances.

These Immersion boxes also contain some fun extra stuff like artwork booklets, art prints, photo books, marbles, coasters, and a scarf!
